The practice of non-attachment is crucial when it comes to moving forward in life. The second noble truth in Buddhism says that attachment or clinging, ultimately leads to our suffering.
Let’s face it, sometimes life goes our way, but more than not, life goes it’s own way! It’s usually contrary to the way in which we imagined it or desired it to be.
Buddhism also teaches that we do have the opportunity to find Nirvana, that which is a state of joy. This comes from the practice of non-attachment.
In a mindful yoga practice, we can identify where these states of either clinging (tension) or joy (openness) live in our bodies.
For years I had this ongoing tightness in my psoas muscle. It was so deep and it became an ongoing place for inquiry. At one point, no matter how many yoga classes I did, I thought I would NOT be able to release this tight muscle.
It literally became so annoying that I was forced to truly work intimately with this part of my body, which then lead to some pretty AMAZING, NOT SO EASY, self-awareness AH HA’s.
I have to say that the dance of learning to let go of that psoas tightening has been one of my best teachers!
When we don’t want to feel deeply, we can easily disembody. This is a scapegoat to living life in present time. Inquiring, being present, and noticing where the triggers are coming from, in the long run, brings freedom and choice.
The practice of non-attachment doesn’t mean checking out or moving out of the body (disembodiment). When we stay present with what arises, we are forced to feel deeply. Even if it’s not what we expected or wanted, it is the way out of our suffering.
In our modern culture we are bombarded on a regular basis with too much information. Sometimes leaving the body can be a scapegoat. Over time it keeps us from having the tools necessary to access healing or wholeness.
Non-attachment is not disembodiment
By not putting expectations on how life or others should show up is a great way to live in the flow.
Disembodiment can become a bad habit or unconscious pattern…I feel it’s best to avoid at all costs!
The bodies messages, it’s connection to Mother Earth, is our home here on the planet. Staying fully embodied is where it’s at to ROCK YOUR LIFE in a fully connected way.
Your life will make more sense when you are embodied so that you can then choose non-attachment and have flow, good health, and inner peace.
